All The World’s A Blog

It seems that every conversation I have with people lately always comes around to blogging. I love blogs and I see the value in them for my clients, but the more I talk to people about what they do or their hobbies, I end up saying “you should be blogging!”

But it’s true.  Here are some reasons to blog that came up in recent conversations I’ve had:

If you work for a major brand and have expertise that would appeal to your target consumer, or better yet, you ARE your target consumer – BLOG.  Share your expertise, stories of success and failure, or the latest book or article you read on the subject.  Your consumers will totally relate to you and start asking you questions and even better – start to tell what they want and how they want it.  Magic.

You’re planning a 50th reunion for a high school and need to start creating awareness – blog.  Start enlisting the help of former and current students in telling stories about then and now.  Recap the last 50 years in personal stories, memorials, photos and more.  Enlist local businesses to sponsor the event and let them provide content too.   For example, a local diner where the kids hung out – share photos of then and now – and compare prices of shakes, meals.  Ask the diner to promote your blog with a link from their site.

You’re an avid runner and you manage a runner’s group – blog.  Post times for your practices, post upcoming runs and link to registration pages, have photo galleries, before and afters pics of folks who got into shape, and provide feedback for anyone interested in running.  Share tips for preparation, eating and training.  Before you know it you’ll be linking back and forth and conversing with people who share your passion all around the world! It’s awesome.

You’ve been working in an exciting field for 20 plus years – blog.  How many people have been on tour with a rock band?  Who’s been to the Grammy’s 10 times!?  These are great experiences and there is a world of music fans and musicians out there who’d love to know what you know.  Share fun stories (discreetly or not) and see what kind of response you get.  You never know, this could be the begining of a great future book and the publisher may just find you because of your blog!!!

Seriously, those ideas are from 4 conversations I had this week.  So what’s your story? Why aren’t you telling it?  Here are some great resources:

I Have a Dream & It Involves Blogging & a Yacht

My friend Jennifer Kushell wrote a NY Times Best-seller called “Secrets of the Young & Successful: How to get Everything you Want Without Waiting a Lifetime” and in it she asks you to define your ideal life (among the other things she helps you realize.)

calendar-shot.jpgI have been telling friends and family my dream for the past year or so and here it is: I want to make my living writing, which of course means blogging, from a beautiful yacht somewhere in the Carribean with my husband and my dog.  My husband can retire and do what we love, travel the world. I believe this is very possible and yesterday I took a step in that direction.

Yesterday my little PR company, Starfish P.R., launched a new business model to help people get an online identity quickly and affordably.  The plan is deliver low cost, high quality web development and blog support in high volume. This is not only something my team and I love to do, but it can be done anywhere…like on a boat…in the Carribean.

If you know of anyone who needs our help – please have them email us: webprhelp@gmail.com

If you want to know how to map out your own ideal life – buy Jen’s book and join YSN.com

If you think I’m crazy…well visit Carribean Yacht Blogger in a few years and tell me so. 🙂

Why Dieting and Wine Belong Together

Okay, so they probably don’t belong together, but in my world they do.  I am part of a Biggest Loser competition with my girlfriends and we actually have a trainer coordinating it and weighing us so it’s pretty official. Plus there’s $1000 in the pot for our winner.

Our trainer, Curwine.jpgtis, gave us each a packet with guidelines and helpful tips – one of which I’d like to share:

Wine:  Whether you prefer red (that’s me) or white, drinking wine has been shown to be good for heart health in certain groups of people (hopefully me.) White wine’s protection comes from tryosol and caffeic acid, which reduces oxidative stress and inflammation.  Red wine’s polyphenols appear to confer its heart benefits.  Several studies show that red wine in moderation (is that 2 or 3 glasses?) lowers homocysteine, platelet stickiness and LDL “bad” cholesterol.

Life is good.

P.S. – moderation is actually one or two small glasses – that still rocks!

Great Advice to Set Realistic Goals and Make them Stick!

I am a big fan of Kristen Fischer, author of Creatively Self-Employed, and not just because I got to participate in the creation of her book!  She is a freelancer who runs a great site and blog by the same name, which I thoroughly enjoy reading.  I just rec’d her newsletter which included a great article you can check out at her blog about how to set goals in 2008 and make them stick.

Thanks for the great advice, Kristen.   I’ve got my Biggest Loser goals down, now it’s time I put that same motivation toward my business goals.

Need a Tax Break?

I have been working with Habitat for Humanity for going on 5 years and it’s terrific.  Not only does it feel very rewarding when a build day is done, but they also have lots of ways for us to get some tax breaks including purchasing items at their home improvement stores, donating and now the Cars for Homes program.

Let’s face it, it’s tax time and it sucks.  So think about what youcfh-120x60-web-tile.gif can do now, today, this year, to help ease your pain next year.

Donate automobiles to help Habitat for Humanity build homes. Your car donation can help a family build a house, and the hope of a better life! Car, truck, boat or RV donations help Habitat for Humanity build houses in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable shelter. Donate a car, truck, boat, RV or other vehicle to Habitat’s Cars for Homes™ vehicle donation program by calling 1-877-277-4344 or visiting http://www.carsforhomes.org

I Love The Biggest Loser

I can’t help it, I am completely into this season of NBC’s Biggest Loser! It’s so uplifting.  I have always tuned in for their finale episodes and been totally in awe, but this is the first year that I’ve been watching since episode one and it’s great.

As for my own Biggest Loser with my gal pals, I am doing pretty good. I’ve definitely curbed my (over)eating habits and am eating lots of little meals rather than 2 or 3 per day.  I am also exercising more and this Friday an elliptical machine arrives!  I don’t own a scale so I don’t know what my weight is but I can see and feel a difference.

There’s a New Blogger in Town – Welcome Clarita to the Blogosphere!

original-mambo-jacket-front.jpgI just posted about my client, Clarita, last week as she was mentioned in the L.A. Times as one our best neighborhood gyms.  Well now, thanks to a lot of prodding from yours truly, she is blogging!  Please check out Claritas Mambo Mania blog.  She is a great lady who knows how to motivate plus she’s a Cubana like me so how can you go wrong?

Expect great insight and tips from her blog going forward and stop by her amazing Personal Best studio in San Pedro sometime. It’s like a whole body and soul sanctuary! You feel great the minute you step in the door.

I am helping her launch her Mambo Mania DVD series so expect to see and hear a lot more from Clarita in the coming weeks.  The proof is in the results, trust me you’ll be amazed.  I’ve taken the class and if there’s any part of you that likes to dance – you’ll love it!
